To study in Québec you will need two visas:
1) The provincial Ministry of Cultural Communities and Immigration of Québec (M.C.C.I.) will issue the Certificate of Acceptance/Certificat d'acceptation (C.A.Q.),
2) The federal Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada will provide the Student Permit/Permis de séjour.
You will need both of these to study at Tyark College.

Where and how to apply for a Certificate of Acceptance (C.A.Q.):

The process begins with the application for a Certificate of Acceptance for Québec. Your C.A.Q. application form will be mailed to you with your Tyark College Letter of Admission.

Along with your CAQ application you must send:
1) 2 photocopies of your passport
2) your Letter of Admission from Tyark College
3) detailed statements of your financial sources of support.
4) a processing fee of $100.00 (international bank draft in Canadian funds ONLY) payable to the "Ministère des Finances du Québec" or payment by Visa or Mastercard, that must accompany your appliction. DO NOT SEND A PERSONAL CHEQUE.

How to apply for a Student Permit:

Once you have been issued a C.A. Q., Immigration Québec will have sent your C.A.Q. reference number to the Consulate or Embassy nearest you. You must then apply for a Student Permit Visa from the Canadian Embassy or Consulate which is handling your application. Some embassies will send you the Student Permit application form and others will require you to pick them up. Because of these discrepancies, we encourage you to remain in close contact with the embassy handling your file so that you can obtain the proper forms as soon as possible.

Every application for a Student Permit must be accompanied by:
1) Photocopy of your passport
2) Your Letter of Admission to Tyark College
3) Proof of sufficient financial resources available to you, without engaging in employment while in Canada
i) to pay your tuition fees, (waived for exchange students)
ii) to maintain yourself during your period of study
iii) to pay transportation costs to and from Canada
4) the CAQ (Certificate of Acceptance) issued by the Government of Quebec's Ministère des Relations avec les citoyens et de l’Immigration There is a processing fee of $125 for the Student Permit. This document gives you permission to study at only one institution in Canada, and is normally valid for the period of your programme.

Government regulations allow international students to work in Canada only in the college and with a valid Student Permit.
Students from the USA can obtain their Student Permit directly at the border or customs when entering Canada by presenting:
1) C.A.Q.
2) Official Letter of Acceptance from Tyark College
3) $125.00

NOTE TO INTERNATIONAL AND EXCHANGE STUDENTS RETURNING TO TYARK COLLEGE
WHO'S STUDENT AUTHORIZATION HAS EXPIRED:
Do not let your Student Authorization expire; renew it at least one month before the expiry date. Students should contact the Immigration Canada Centre if your course of study is longer than expected (Case Processing Centre, 6212 55th Ave., Vegreville, Alberta, T9C 1W1 or fax:780-632-8101); if you plan to change schools; if you want to accept work; if you will finish your studies before the course is ended and you do not plan to leave immediately.

If you withdraw from the college, you must also inform Immigration Canada, since you no longer fulfill the requirement of attendance at a post-secondary institution. (N.B. You cannot change your immigration status from Visitor with a Student and/or Employment Authorization to landed immigrant from within Canada.)

Should you require any assistance or additional information concerning the Canadian Student Visa, please contact the Canadian Embassy or Consulate nearest you outside Canada.

Applications to renew a Student Authorization may be obtained from the International Student Office at Tyark or may be downloaded from the following website address:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/applications/student.html

All foreign student candidates wishing to enrol for courses must obtain all the necessary documents required for entry into Canada.

A Visitor's Visa is required for students who wish to take a course for a period of four months or less. For a longer length of stay (more than six months), candidates must
obtain a Student Authorization (Student Visa).

When we receive your completed Application form and your payment, we will send you a letter confirming your acceptance to the college. If you require a Visitor's Visa or a Student Authorization, you must present yourself along with your Letter of Acceptance to a Canadian Embassy or Consulate.

Please note that Canadian Immigration requires that students applying for visas make their application eight weeks prior to the beginning of classes.

Students may apply for study permits even if they are going to study for 6 months or less. If students are coming for less than 6 months and are thinking of possibly studying for more than 6 months, they should apply for a study permit in their home country. Students can extend their study permit from within Canada, but they cannot get a study permit
within Canada.

Visitor's Visa

International students who wish to study in Canada for up to 6 months may need a Visitor's visa depending on the country for which they hold a passport. Contact the Canadian Embassy nearest you for further information.

Work Permit

For Coop programs of less than 6 months, if students are not paid for their practicum, they do not need a study permit or a "work permit" (previously called a work authorization). If the program lasts more than 6 months, they would need a study permit, but not a work permit. If students are paid, they would need a work permit, and therefore must get a study permit before coming to Canada in order to be allowed to apply for a work permit from within Canada, even though the course might be less than 6 months. Some Canadian embassies will provide a work permit along with the study permit.
