This course provides a basic introduction to the concepts and practicalities of the Internet and Email.

 

Content:

1. The Internet

            Basics

                     Opening and closing Web browsers.

                     Understanding Web addresses.

                     Browsing and collecting data from specified sites.

                     Changing the Home Page, displaying and customising the toolbar.

                     Choosing whether or not to display images.

                     Using hyperlinks.

                    Modifying page setup, previewing and printing Web pages.

            Searching

                     Searching: using keywords and logical operators.

                    Printing search reports.

            Bookmarks

                     Creating and opening bookmarks.

                    Organising bookmark folders.

 

2. Email

            Basics

                     Create a new message, enter a subject and send it to a specified address.

                     Auto-signatures.

                     Using the spell checker. Low / high priority.

                     Attaching files.

                     Moving and copying text within the message and between active messages.

                     Inserting text from other sources.

                     Deleting text, and file attachments.

                     Receiving email.

                     Opening attachments.

                     Deleting email.

                     Using the reply to sender, or all, features including, or not including, the original message.

                    Forwarding a message.

            Organising addresses

                     Creating address lists.

                     Adding and deleting addresses from address lists.

                    Creating and using distribution lists.

            Managing messages

                     Creating folders.

                     Moving messages to folders both manually and automatically.

                     Searching for messages.

Sorting messages by name, subject etc.

 

 

Objectives:

On completion of the course participants should:

                    Be able to surf the internet

                    Be capable of sending and receiving email

                    Browse the World Wide Web by URLs, hypertext links, Favorites and the Toolbar.

                    Customize the features of your browser to your specific preferences.

                    Use Favorites to immediately access sites you enjoy or need.

                    Research information about virtually any topic using Web search engines.

                    Obtain up to the moment data by accessing sites, government agencies and the like.

                    Communicate via Internet e-mail. Avoid long distance and postal charges.

                    Understand encryption, virus protection and other security issues.

                    Speak knowledgeably with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and other providers of Internet related services.
